The Evolution of ComChart, an electronic medical record

I began writing and using my first EMR in 1991. The intent was to determine if an EMR could help reduce my filing and dictation costs. At the time, I was unaware of any other physician who were using an EMR. Over the years, this EMR program became progressively more elaborate and functional.

Subsequently, I began writing about and lecturing on EMRs. When physicians saw ComChart (Computerized Chart), they began asking if it was available for purchase. For techinical reasons, I did not think I should distribute the original version of ComChart. Thus, I re-wrote ComChart using a "relational database" progamming language called Filemaker.

ComChart will now work on any contemporary Macintosh, Linux or Windows computer and can be networked between offices.
