Prescriptions
Invariably, patients will need either an old prescription refilled or new prescription written. To access the prescription printing file, the user need only click on the "Rx" button which is located above and to the right of the patient's medicine list (in the Progress note file and the Clinical summary file.) They will then be taken to the Prescriptions file.
Prescriptions file To print a prescription, the user first clicks on the "Rx" button located to the left of the medicine on the patient's Medicine list. They then click the "print Rx," "Telephone Rx" or "Print all Rxs" button. New prescriptions can by typed directly into the Medicine list or the Old Medicine list, and then printed. A record of all printed prescriptions is maintained in the Old Medicine list. All prescriptions are checked against the patient's "allergy list" when they are printed. Prescriptions, with signatures, can also be faxed directly from ComChart to your pharmacy
To help minimize typing, every user can create their own list of frequently used medications. Thus, when you wish to place a patient on one of these medicines, you first click on the "go to Pre-Written Prescriptions lay out," where you will be presented with your personalized list of medications. By clicking on the desired pre-written prescription, the new Rx will be add to the patient's medicine list (or old medicine list) and printed or faxed to the pharmacy. Medications can easily be added to/removed from the user specific "Pre-Written Prescriptions" on the fly. When prescriptions are generated, ComChart will check the prescription against the patient's allergy list and inform you if the patient is allergic to the prescribed medication. It will also check the prescription against the patient's health insurance formulary and inform you if the prescribed medication is off formulary.
